so the basic concept is "if x, then y" easy enough right? i'm glad my professor puts up with me.

professor:

if mike knocks his hand against the table, it hurts. mike knocks his hand against the table. we can therefore conclude that mike's hand hurts. true?

me:

you worded it like the table is the one that is hurting.

professor:

(rewrites on board) if mike knocks his hand against the table, his hand hurts.

me:

what if he has gloves on?

professor:

if mike knocks his bare, real hand against the table, his hand hurts.

me:

what if it's a periodic table? or a table of contents?

professor:

(on board) LOL.
