on luxury.
luxury is typically defined in terms of rare extravagance and spoiling oneself - something out of the ordinary. however, i don’t feel that in order for something to be considered luxurious that it has to be an expensive rare treat. luxury is all around us, if we just take the time to appreciate and enjoy what we have. luxury is simplicity. it is a reading a good book outside, in a dress, and feeling the sun on your shoulders. it is a perfect cup of coffee and a cookie. it is wading barefoot in a creek and then feeling the grass on your bare feet when you exit. it is good conversation with friends. it is the shadows from a flickering candle. it is being naked and wrapping yourself up in a soft blanket. it is taking a walk by yourself through the woods. it is riding a horse. it is a sunrise and sunset. it is a snug embrace and a long kiss. it is your favorite song. it is smiling just because it feels good. it is the quiet when everyone else is asleep. it is the state of half-asleep and half-awake on days when you don’t have to get up at any certain time. it is cloud-watching. it is a warm cat on your legs. it is wildflowers. it is playing an instrument and getting lost in a solo. it is daydreaming. it is not needlessly hurrying to places. it is floating on a raft. it is life.
